Description
Newlands is a house that dates back to the 16th century and possibly earlier. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and features gabled crossings on both the north and south sides. Inside, there is a central open hall that was largely rebuilt in the 16th century. The exterior includes a range of three 20th-century casement windows and a staircase tower. The north crosswing jetties out to the east, and there is a 16th-century red brick chimney stack that was rebuilt at the top in the 19th century. The house also has 19th-century bargeboards with pendants and finials, along with some 20th-century lean-to extensions. Internally, some original heavy framing is still visible. The house is situated on a moated site.
