Description
Brands Farmhouse is a house dating from the 14th century, originally built as a hall house with crosswings on the east and west sides. It features a timber frame with plaster and a red plain tile roof, and it stands two storeys high. The crosswings are gabled and jettied, showcasing exposed joists and brackets. The building has a three-window range, with 19th and 20th century casements, alongside one small 16th century mullioned window. There is a red brick chimney stack from the 16th century, which has attached diagonal shafts. A lean-to porch includes a fascia inscribed with "1630 RM." Inside, the original frame is preserved, featuring original mullioned windows and several 16th century doors. The first floor was inserted into the open hall in the mid-16th century, and there is a 16th century fireplace with a mantel beam. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site.
