Description
The Manuden War Memorial is a First World War memorial erected in 1921, with the architect remaining unknown. It is carved from granite and is situated in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin, which is a Grade II*-listed building.
The memorial features a block built monolith topped with an arched capstone. On the front face, there is a stone panel that bears an inscription reading: 1914 1918 / TO THE GLORY OF GOD / IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL / MEMORY OF THE GALLANT / MEN OF MANUDEN / WHO FOUGHT AND DIED FOR / THEIR COUNTRY / DURING THE GREAT WAR / (NAMES). At the top of the panel, there is a carved cross surrounded by a crown. The memorial is set on a single-stepped stone base.
