Description

The Old Maltings is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house with an adjoining building, likely a former maltings, now combined as a single dwelling. The building was restored in the 20th century, with the original timber framing exposed on the front facade. The house is two storeys high, featuring a jettied upper storey extending across the entire front, supported by exposed joists. It has a three-window front with casement windows, featuring leaded lights; the ground floor windows have boarded shutters. The former maltings section also has three casement windows with leaded lights. The roofs are tiled. A central chimney stack with attached shafts is present on the house, while the former maltings has a prominent central gable, formerly containing a loft hoist. A modern sign on the front states “From the 14th century. Rebuilt C. Elizabeth I”.
