Description

This is a former house, likely dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, now used as shops and offices. The building is timber-framed and has been rendered, with gabled plain tile roofs. The front features a plain parapet and an early 19th-century painted timber cornice incorporating paired modillions. The first floor has three tripartite double-hung sash windows with small panes, with large projecting plaster panels between. The ground floor is occupied by three 20th-century shop fronts with fascias, hardwood shop windows, and a recessed 20th-century door leading to the first floor. The rear of the building has three gables with decorative barge-boards, and a single-storey flat-roofed 20th-century extension built of painted brick.

The building is a long, wall-jettied timber-framed house, with an unarticulated cross-wing at the north end, which forms the northernmost rear gable. Both roofs have clasped side purlins and arched wind bracing. Some jowls are visible on the first floor. During a recent renovation, it was revealed that the front wall originally had a series of oriels and frieze windows with moulded mullions, though these are now concealed again.
