Description

No. 16 Watling Street is a 15th-century house that was altered in the 18th century. It features a timber frame with plaster and a red plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and a three-window range of double-hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars, along with sidelights on the ground floor. The central doorway is recessed and flanked by fluted pilasters, topped with a moulded canopy. Inside, the original frame is preserved, including a cross-wing at the south end that now oversails. The interior also includes crown post roofs and jowled storey posts, along with 18th-century doors and a late 18th-century corner cupboard.
