Description

Hillside Cottage, located east of Claypits Farm on Thaxter Bardfield Road, is a 16th-century or earlier cottage. It is timber-framed with rendered plaster walls and has a thatched half-hipped roof. The cottage is one storey high with attics. It has two windows, now with modern leaded casements, and a single "eyebrow" dormer. A red brick chimney stack is present. A modern date plaque is affixed to the building, inscribed with the date 1539.
