Description
Claypits Farmhouse is a mid-15th century or earlier open hall house with crosswings, which were altered in the 16th and 17th centuries. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red plain tile hipped roof. It has two storeys, and the crosswings, which were originally jettied and gabled, are now underbuilt and hipped. The house features a three-window range of 18th-century double hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars, along with modern casements that include leaded lights. A 16th-century red brick chimney stack has been partly rebuilt at the top. There is a small modern gabled porch made of painted brick with a red plain tile roof, and modern panelled pargetting has been added. At the rear, there is a 17th-century extension and an 18th-century brewhouse, which is now part of the house. Inside, the original and 16th-century framing is still visible, including some doors.
