Description

The Manse is a late 18th century house with early 19th century alterations, located on the south side of Thaxted Town Street. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and cellars, featuring a three-window range with double hung vertical sliding sashes that include glazing bars. The ground floor windows have side lights and are glazed in margins. There is a decorative band, and the central entrance is flanked by pilasters and topped with an ornamental semi-circular fanlight. The entrance features a six-panel door, accessed by a flight of steps with handrails. The original detailing remains intact inside. The Manse was formerly the residence of composer Gustav Holst.
