Description
Wises is a 16th-century house located in Hatfield Broad Oak. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure with a half-hipped peg-tile roof. The building has one storey and attics, with three hipped dormers on the north side and 20th-century small pane casements. There is a large off-centre stack from the early 17th century, which has a moulded brick capping at the base. To the west, there is a 20th-century lower extension with a half-hipped roof and a 20th-century diamond mullion window in the gable. Inside, the frame is exposed, revealing a three-bay plan with jowled posts, arch braces to the tie beams, curved internal wall bracing, and halved and bridled scarf joints. The inserted floor beams rest on decorative blocks that are dated 1649.
