Description
This is a barn located adjacent to Easton Glebe in Little Easton, dating from the early 18th century. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and plastered, featuring a slated, half hipped roof and measuring four bays in length. There is a single aisle on the south side, with diagonal braces supporting the tie beams and a side purlin roof. The upper floor is situated in the east end bays. On the north side, there are early 20th century leaded casements and a glazed screen extending from the ground to the eaves. A re-used 17th century panelled door is found on the east end. Easton Glebe was once home to the writer H.G. Wells and his family, and it is noted that this barn was used for children's games and dramatic productions featuring well-known literary figures. The upper floor, leaded casements, glazed screen, and panelled door were likely added by H.G. Wells. This barn is included for its group value.
