Railway tunnel portal. 1845 by Robert Stephenson for the Eastern Counties Railway. Semi-circular red brick and stone portal. Outer stone ring embellished with alternating Tudor portcullis and rose bosses. Within, a ring of five courses of brickwork and a rusticated stone arch with keystone bearing the Braybrooke coat of arms in bas relief. Within this, five concentric receding rings of brickwork. All these spring from a rusticated stone plinth at each side. The tunnel was built in order to preserve the privacy of Audley End House.
