Description

The bridge over the River Cam, located south-west of Audley End House, was built between 1763 and 1764 by the architect Robert Adam. It is constructed from oolitic stone ashlar and features a hump-backed, curved design with splayed ends. The bridge has three elegant segmental arches, with a balustraded center section and terminal piers. Each side of the bridge includes roundels in the spandrels; the southern roundels are plain, while the northern ones feature heraldic decoration in the two inner roundels and the year "ANNO 1764" in the outer roundel.
