Description

Stebbing Park is a house dating from the mid-16th century, featuring later additions and alterations. It has an L-shaped layout with a timber frame and plastered exterior. A stair turret is located on the right side, topped with a crownpost roof and decorative barge boards at the gable. To the left front, there is a single-storey extension. The roofs are covered with red plain tiles and have moulded and dentilled eaves cornices.

The house has a four-window range of 18th-century small-paned sliding sashes on the first floor, and a one-to-two window range on the ground floor, with the furthest right window consisting of three lights. The entrance features a six-panel door with an ornate fanlight above, flanked by moulded pilasters, dentilled capitals, and a frieze, all beneath a flat canopy, which is accessed by steps. There is also a 20th-century door leading to the left extension.

The rear wing of the house is jettied and includes a 17th-century iron leaded bay window on the ground floor, complete with original shutters and ironmongery. The main range roof has a side purlin structure, and there is 17th-century internal panelling along with a 16th-century external red brick chimney stack on both the front and rear ranges.

Stebbing Park is set in a picturesque parkland, adjacent to a moated motte. Within the grounds, there are remnants of a 13th-century barn that has been incorporated into a 20th-century swimming pool building. Additionally, there is a fine 19th or 20th-century greenhouse featuring a hipped roof, ornate cast iron crested ridge and finials, seven decorative cast iron side brackets (three at the rear), and five matching apex ties. The windows of the greenhouse have small-paned upper glazing panels.
