Description
The tea house and bridge, located north-west of Audley End House, were built in 1783 and designed by Robert Adam. This small Palladian structure features ashlar and stucco with a lead roof. The bridge has a single segmental arch and is adorned with a tetrastyle Ionic temple facade over the center section. It includes a dentilled entablature and a flat roof with four roundels in the frieze, along with a central raised panel above the cornice. Paterae are present in the bridge spandrels, and wrought-iron handrails extend across the front, supported by fluted circular terminal piers. Behind the footway across the bridge, there is an inner matching open colonnade that leads to the tea room, which has a plain interior.
