Description

Moat Cottage is a mid-16th century Wealden house located in Takeley, Smith's Green. The building is timber framed and plastered, featuring a weatherboarded dado and a red plain tile roof. It stands two storeys high and has a four-window range with modern leaded casements. The centre of the cottage is recessed, and it has jettied end bays. There is framed coving at the eaves level. Inside, the timber frame is nearly complete, showcasing arch braced and cambered tie beams, jowled storey posts, and halved mid bladed top plate scarfs.
