Description

High Birch Farmhouse is a house dating to the 14th and 15th centuries, with later alterations and additions. It is timber-framed and plastered, with some batten decoration, and has red plain tiled roofs. The house features left and right external red brick chimney stacks, the one on the right being plastered. The left side is a jettied crosswing of two storeys, while the right side is a single-storey and attic range of separate builds. There are various later rear ranges. The front has a 1:2 window range of small paned vertically sliding shutters and a central casement. The timber frame is very heavy, with widely spaced wall studs, halved arched bracing to the walls, large bridging and ceiling joists, and some stop-chamfered arched braced tie beams. Original mullion slots are also present.
