Description
This is a 19th-century hydrant located immediately in front (to the south) of the jettied crosswing of cottages numbered 45, 47, and 49 on Mill Street in St. Osyth. The hydrant is made of cast iron and features an ornate design with a moulded capital and base, showcasing curved and pointed interlocking arches, as well as rings above and below. The stem is fluted, and the head is moulded with a base boss above the stem tap, along with moulded side roundels. The curved fluted head is topped with a fluted finial, and there are hollow top and side bosses. A plaque above the tap indicates it was made by J. Stone and Co. Ltd. in Deptford, London.
