Description
Willow Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a slate roof. The cottage has four bays facing north, featuring a stack located in the second bay from the right, which creates a lobby entrance. At the rear of the right bay, there is a single-storey extension from the 18th or 19th century, covered with handmade red clay tiles and featuring a 20th-century external stack. Additionally, there are 20th-century single-storey lean-to extensions with felt roofs at the right end and behind the main structure. The cottage is one storey high with attics and includes three 20th-century casement windows with external shutters, along with one casement window without shutters in the right extension. A partly glazed door from the 20th century is also present. Much of the weatherboarding is made of elm, with some repairs using softwood and treated with gas tar; the front elevation is painted white. The stack is rendered, and the interior features chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue and jewel stops. The wood-burning hearths have been reduced for 20th-century grates, and the staircase, located in front of the stack, is in its original position, though it may not be the original staircase.
