Description

The barn and attached granary, located 65 metres north-west of Beaumont Hall, date from the 17th century and were altered in the early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick in irregular Flemish bond and are roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The building is aligned northwest to southeast and originally featured two midstreys on the northeast side, of which one remains in an altered form. At the southeast end, there is a two-storey granary that forms a crosswing.

There is a 19th-century lean-to extension on the southwest side with a slate roof, creating a catslide effect, and additional lean-to extensions on the northeast side, roofed with slate and red clay 'Roman' tiles. The two midstreys closer to the southeast end have been demolished and their openings blocked, while those nearer the northwest end have been reduced to lean-tos in the early 19th century. The original threshing floor, made of Tudor bricks arranged in a herringbone pattern, remains intact.

On the northeast elevation, there are eight original plain loop-vents, three of which are now incorporated into the lean-to extensions. The northwest gable end features one original loop-vent and a pitching door with a rebuilt arch; the upper half of this gable has also been rebuilt. The two-storey granary has a string course at first-floor level and weatherboarded gables. The southeast elevation includes one halved door and garage doors in an altered opening. Access to the first floor is via a ladder, and there is one 20th-century casement window. The floor consists of five bays with joists of vertical section, incorporating re-used medieval timber. The upper storey has not been examined.
