Description
This building is a barn located approximately 90 metres north-west of Beaumont Hall, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a roof that is primarily covered with handmade red clay tiles, with some areas using slate. The barn is aligned in a north-east to south-west direction and is divided into two equal sections, each featuring a midstray on the north-west side. There are two lean-to extensions on the north-west side, situated between the midstreys, as well as lean-to shelter sheds along the south-east side.
The south-west half of the barn retains much of its original central threshing floor made of herringbone brickwork and features an original half-hipped gambrel roof with five bays. The lower pitch of the south-east side is covered with slate, while the rest of the roof is tiled. The roof structure includes raking struts connecting straight tiebeams to principal rafters, with clasped purlins in the upper pitch. The north-east half still has a wooden threshing floor, but its roof was rebuilt in the 20th century in a simple pitched style.
