Description
The byre, located approximately 75 metres west of Beaumont Hall, dates from the 18th century and was altered in the early 19th century. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with the northeast wall constructed of red brick in Flemish bond. The roof is primarily covered with handmade red clay tiles, with some sections using slate. The building is aligned northwest to southeast and faces northeast.
Along the full length of the southwest side and at the southeast end, there are early 19th-century single-storey lean-to extensions made of red brick in Flemish bond, which are roofed with slate. The byre is a single storey with a half-hipped gambrel roof; the lower pitch on the northeast side is slated, while the remainder is tiled. It features a clasped purlin roof, face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates, and arched braces to the southwest wallplate.
