Description
Grove Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th century and later. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, sitting on a brick plinth, and features a red plain tiled roof. The house has two storeys and displays three small paned vertically sliding sash windows. The central entrance consists of a panelled door with a top light, surrounded by a moulded frame and topped with a flat canopy supported by brackets.
Originally, the building was made up of two separate sections, with the left side possibly being an earlier crosswing that includes heavy arched braces supporting the tie beams. The right section consists of one bay with a crosswing on the right, which was formerly jettied and features moulded bridging and ceiling joists that indicate the line of the jetty. Additional notable features include jowled storey posts, a very heavy storey post at the rear, an inserted restored chimney stack, a mullion window, and an 18th or 19th century cast iron basket grate.
