Description
The south face of Hopping Bridge is a bridge built around 1774-1780, designed by Robert Adam for Hon. Richard Rigby. Only the south side of the bridge remains. It features red and yellow brick with stone dressings and has a single span. The raised buttresses are made of yellow brick and have stone upper panels with central roundels and stone coping. There is a moulded stone arch with a central ornamental bracket that connects to a moulded stone band above, which continues through the buttresses. The side wings are constructed from yellow brick at the bases, with red brick above and stone coping. The end pilasters have moulded stone bases and heads. The north (road) face has a centre panel filled in with yellow brick, while the plinth is made of red brick. At either end, a moulded stone baluster remains.
