Description

Lodge Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions. It is timber framed and rough rendered, featuring a central band. The roof is made of red plain tiles and has a double range design with parapet verges. There are chimney stacks located to the left, off centre right, and at the rear. The building has two storeys and attics, with a four-window range that includes 20th-century four-light small paned casements and vertically sliding sashes. On the left side, there is a four-panelled two-light door with a simple surround. Dr. Dickin believed the house to be of 15th-century origin, and it is thought to have served as the Manor House before Nicholas Magens built a brick Manor House around 1763, which has since been demolished. This information is noted in the history of Brightlingsea by E.P. Dickin from 1913.
