Description

Pickerells Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is primarily timber framed and plastered, with some areas of plastered brick, and features a red plain tiled roof. The house has a central red brick chimney stack with attached diagonal shafts. It stands two storeys high with attics, and has three first-floor windows and two ground-floor windows on the right and left, which are a mix of three-light vertically sliding sashes and casements, along with a fixed central first-floor light. The entrance features a central vertically boarded door with a top light and moulded pilasters, leading to a gabled red tiled porch.

Inside, there are back-to-back fireplaces on the first and ground floors. The first-floor fireplaces have moulded brick Tudor arches and semi-circular backs, while the ground floor right fireplace has a moulded stone fireplace with a Tudor arch; the left room's fireplace is now blocked but is said to be similar. The house retains original plain windows and moulded mullion windows, as well as rail and muntin doors. Notable internal features include stop-chamfered bridging joists, heavy wall studs, original stairs, and a built-in settle with incised patera and foliate motifs, which are also repeated on the first-floor doorway. Additionally, there are two 18th-century corner cupboards and a framed side purlin roof with a halved and bladed top plate scarf. The farmhouse is sometimes referred to as Pickerel's.
