Description
The retaining wall and sluice at the northwestern end of the lake were built in the 18th or early 19th century for the Du Cane family. Constructed of red brick with stone coping, the wall surrounds the northwestern end of the lake. It is located approximately 170 meters from the north corner of the lake, near the Cave/Icehouse, and about 50 meters south of the cave is the sluice. Lake Lodge is situated south of the sluice, with access provided by a later plain wooden bridge over the sluice. The sluice walls are at least 7 meters deep, featuring a plinth and terminating in a sluice gate that has upper and lower arches. Above the plinth on the north wall of the sluice, there are two culvert arches.
