Description

Railway Cottage is a cottage dating to around 1840. It is constructed with a painted brick facade, topped by a hipped roof covered in red plain tiles. The chimney stacks are red brick, situated on the right and left sides. The cottage is two storeys high and has a two-window front. The windows are 19th-century casements with two lights each, including a central transom. A central, enclosed porch with a red tiled roof shelters a board door. Inside, features include a floor made of Klompjie bricks. The doors are vertically boarded, retaining their original ironmongery. An original staircase is present, along with a brick segmental arched fireplace, featuring an iron soffit tie. A cast iron fireplace is in the bedroom, and an original bake oven is located in the right return. The cottage is a good example of its type.
