Description
The building is a warehouse, now used as offices, constructed in 1863. It is made of buff stock bricks and features a low-pitched gabled slate roof. The warehouse was built beside the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation for E.M. Bentall and Company.
The exterior consists of four storeys with attics and has a three-bay range. All elevations are marked by window bays defined by full-height pilasters and a string band between the second and third floors. The front elevation on the north-west side has three bays, with windows that have segmental heads and 20th-century metal replacements featuring six large panes on the ground and first floors, and three lights on the third floor. The central opening on the ground floor has been converted into an entrance.
The south-east elevation is similar to the front, while the south-west flank has 17 bays, with two central bays on the ground floor that feature semicircular-arched heads with keystones and recessed doors. The north-east elevation facing the canal is also similar but includes one central semicircular-arched entrance. A metal flue is present on the roof, along with plain barge-boards that serve as a simplified pediment. The interior has not been inspected.
