Description
The stable blocks attached to the right of Braxted Park House date from the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed of red brick and feature red tiled roofs. The front face is symmetrical, with a central two-storey pedimented arch carriageway topped by a small square bell cote that has an ogee roof and an acorn finial. There are round-headed doorways on the inner walls of the carriageway.
To the left and right are single-storey ranges, each with stone coping to the parapet, a cornice band, and five recessed arches with glazing bars for round-headed windows. The central window on the left has been adapted into a door, which is accessed by steps. The building on the right side of the courtyard is two storeys high and has a red plain tiled hipped roof. The hip end next to the front range features round-headed double doors with glazing bars and a small paned casement window above.
The original symmetrical courtyard face has a moulded eaves cornice and three forward centre bays with recessed arches and a pediment. Each arch contains panelled double doors with semi-circular lights featuring glazing bars above. A clock with a canopy is positioned over the pediment. The first floor has small paned casement windows on the right and left. There is also a large domed bellcote with a dentilled cornice, arches underneath, square support columns, and a weathervane. Various recessed arches are present in the other courtyard buildings.
Attached to the right of the main 18th-century range is a later courtyard range made of red brick, also with a red plain tiled roof that is hipped to the right. It features an eaves cornice and is symmetrical with a gabled central carriageway, which has a plastered apex decorated with battens. There are six recessed brick panels on either side of the gable.
