Description

This house, dating from the 17th century, is located on the north-west side of North Street in Toleshunt d'Arcy. It is a timber-framed building with plaster infill and some red brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern, covered by a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The house originally had three bays facing south, with an external stack at each end. A single-storey extension has been added to the left, and a lean-to extension runs along the full length of the rear, with a 20th-century extension topped with a corrugated plastic roof added behind this. The house is two storeys high with attics. The ground floor has two tripartite sash windows, each divided into 4-16-4 panes. The first floor has two 19th or 20th-century sash windows, each with 16 panes, and a central early 19th-century sash window with 12 panes of crown glass. Dormers, with slated roofs, house two early 19th-century sash windows. The front door is a six-panel door with four glazed panels, set within a 20th-century trellised gabled porch. The right gable end is brick. False quoins made of plaster are visible at the front right corner. Inside, there are chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops.
