Description
Ashleys is a house that dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, with alterations and additions made in the 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries. It has a timber frame and is covered in parget plaster, topped with red plain tiled roofs. The building features a complex plan, primarily two storeys high, with a gable on the left side of the north face and two gables on the right. There is a one-storey and attic range in between, which includes a gabled dormer, and a range at the rear of the right gables. A single-storey extension was added to the right in the 20th century. The façade has a window arrangement of two, one, one, and one, featuring vari-light leaded casements. A large gabled porch, built in the late 19th or early 20th century, is adorned with turned balusters on the walls and arched braces supporting the king post roof, leading to a boarded door. A similar porch is located at the rear. Originally, the building faced south, with the east wing from the 14th or 15th century, the west wing from the 16th century, and a gabled stair tower from the 16th century on the north side. Some of the original framing remains in the hall and crosswing, where a 16th-century floor has been inserted into the hall. There is also an original solid tread staircase leading to the 16th-century wing.
