Description
The building, known as Nexus House, was originally a school founded in 1777. It features walls made of red brick laid in Flemish bond and has a hipped roof covered with slate. A single red brick chimney is located at the south end of the building.
A stone inscribed with the founding details is placed under a blind recess in the center of the first storey. The inscription reads: "This free school was founded and endowed by William Martin Esq. Formerly Lord of the Manor of Netteswellbury. For the education of 20 poor children. And was erected by the Trustees appointed by his will in the year of our Lord 1777." On either side of this stone are pairs of small-paned hornless sash windows set under straight arches. The central door is modern and is framed by a case with a flat leaded hood, with matching pairs of sashes on each side.
