Description

Greenacres is an early 17th-century house that has been extended in the 18th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The house is arranged in three bays, oriented approximately northeast to southwest, and includes an inserted axial chimney stack between the northeast and middle bays, as well as an external chimney stack at the southwest end. The rear extensions, added in the 18th century, create a T-shaped plan, with a further extension in the southern angle completed in 1968.

The building has two storeys, and the front elevation is covered in white-painted weatherboards. It has a three-window range of 20th-century casements and a 20th-century door. The roof is hipped at both ends, while the rear extension has a half-hipped roof. Some of the framing is exposed internally, showcasing jowled wall posts, straight tie beams, and curved bracing that is trenched inside the studs. The interior also features stop-chamfered beams. The roof structure includes clasped purlins, and the collar between the northeast and middle bays has been severed to accommodate the inserted chimney. Additionally, some smoke-blackened medieval rafters have been reused as rafters and purlins.
