Description
Skreens Lodge is a lodge cottage believed to have been built in 1812. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring one storey with attics and an 'L' shaped plan. The building has a half-hipped thatched roof over the front block, which continues with a hipped thatched roof at the rear. The front block includes an open colonnade along the road side elevation and at the rear, except where a rear extension required infilling. The colonnade is supported by 'rustic' arcade posts with ogee arched heads at the ends. A large gault brick chimney stack rises through the rear slope, and there is a white painted boarded gabled dormer at the back. The windows are Gothick, featuring pointed timber casements set in square surrounds, with blue coloured glass infill in the central top spandrel. The rear of the building has some double hung sash windows with small panes and leaded lights, as well as cast iron casements. Inside, console brackets support the ceiling beams, and there are some contemporary doors and skirtings. The lodge also boasts an elaborate fire surround from the early Victorian period, made of painted wood and featuring half-length herms.
