Description

New House Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof covered in handmade red clay tiles. The building consists of a 2-bay hall block that is aligned approximately north-south, with two jettied crosswings. There is an axial chimney stack at the south end of the hall block and an internal chimney stack in the northern crosswing. A rear extension from the northern crosswing dates to the 17th century and features both an axial chimney stack and an external chimney stack at the eastern end. The eastern gable has a gabled dormer and a swept dormer. The farmhouse has two storeys, and the west elevation includes a tiled gabled porch and three early 19th-century double-hung sash windows with marginal lights on each floor. The upper storeys and gables of the crosswings feature mock timber framing. The facade gable of the hall block has a 19th-century casement window with an arched head. The grouped diagonal chimney shafts are a notable feature. The building was restored after suffering damage during the war.
