Description
Normans Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed farmhouse dating from around 1300. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with peg tile roofs. Originally, it featured an aisled hall, but the north aisle has since been removed. The east end has a cross wing with an exposed jetty and a roof that is both hipped and gabled on its front (north) elevation. The main block also has a hipped roof with a gablet at the west end.
There is a 20th-century lean-to at the rear, along with small stacks and a mix of 19th and 20th-century casement windows. Notably, the central truss of the hall lacks supporting arcade posts. The spere truss includes curved square section arched braces, while the service wall truss is partly intact. The crown post roof features four crown posts with square section longitudinal curved braces.
The cross wing displays straight 'high end' wall bracing that forms a cruciform pattern and has peg holes indicating the location of a former bench. Its half hipped roof is of a simple collar and rafter type, and the gablet shows pegging for a former smoke outlet.
