Description
The Marquis of Granby Inn is an early 16th-century building, dating around 1520, known for its exceptionally fine carved detail, although much of it was extensively restored in 1914. The inn is two storeys high, timber-framed and plastered, with tiled roofs and an L-shaped layout. The front features a significant amount of exposed timber-framing, and the upper storey projects outwards. The ground floor front has been rebuilt and modernised. There are four main windows with wood mullions and transoms, featuring leaded lattices. The finest carved detail can be found in the main room of the east wing, which is divided into two bays by a richly carved heavy transverse beam. The inn is part of a group with Nos 13 to 29.
