Description

The column and street light, located to the left of the entrance to the Town Hall on High Street, was built around 1898 and designed by architect John Belcher, who also designed the Town Hall. It features a Portland stone lantern column that is unfluted and has a stylized composite design with an octagonal base. The column is topped with metal lanterns that have domical tops. Surrounding the shaft are three bronze plaques, each displaying the Borough Arms.
