Description
This is a late 16th-century timber-framed and plastered farmhouse located in Layer Breton. It has a rectangular plan, originally consisting of three bays and a chimney bay, with a later wing added to the rear. The building is two storeys high and has a red plain tile roof. The front features a three-window range of casement windows with leaded lights; some of these windows contain 17th-century glass. A mid-19th century porch has been added, featuring a pediment, columns, and lancet-headed side lights in a "Gothic" style. The south gable has been modernized with weatherboarding. Inside, the original timber frame remains, showcasing stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and cambered tie beams. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site.
