Description
The Half Crown Inn is a public house located on Nigh Street in South Benfleet. It dates from the 18th century, though it may have earlier origins, and has undergone later alterations and additions. The building features a timber frame with a red brick facade and plastered returns, along with gabled rear wings. It has a hipped roof covered with red plain tiles and includes red brick chimney stacks positioned off centre on the right and left ends. The inn is two storeys high and has five small paned vertically sliding sash windows with gauged brick arches on the first floor. The ground floor has three similar windows, although the one on the right is a 20th-century small paned casement. There are three doorways with moulded surrounds, friezes, and dentilled soffits leading to moulded pediments. The left doorway features a six-panelled door, while the doors on the right are from the 20th century.
