GV II
Coach house. Early C19. Red brick in Flemish bond with lime mortar, slate roof. Rectangular plan facing NW, with lean-to greenhouse at rear. One storey. 2 pairs of plain vehicle doors each with a plain overlight. Central plain boarded door with wider fanlight, projecting imposts (painted, probably of stone) and semicircular arch of gauged brick; thin glazing bars forming a rectangular grid. 2 Royal Exchange firemarks attached to front elevation, one above each pair of vehicle doors. Low-pitched hipped roof. Central hexagonal turret, comprising hexagonal posts, louvred at the bottom, and ogival cupola with dentilled eaves cornice, lead roof and weathervane. In the right return is a blocked door aperture, with C20 bricks keyed in. The rear wall has a straight joint near the middle, with handmade bricks to each side, the courses out of alignment raised to form a low parapet. C20 chimney shaft in rear pitch of roof. The central doorway is similar in design to a blocked doorway in the NE elevation of the rear wing of Newnum House (qv), formerly the stable range with which it was associated originally.
