Description
Shenfield Cottage is a house built in the early 19th century, with extensions added in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior features ashlar plaster on brick and a slate roof. The building has a rectangular shape facing southeast, with two stacks on each side wall, and an extension on the right that encloses the stacks. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing that connects the main house to a previously separate single-storey cottage on the right, which has one internal stack. There is also a small two-storey extension in the left rear corner with a flat roof. The house is two storeys high, and the front elevation includes one splayed bay with sash windows. Most windows are sashes with 1+1 lights, except for one mid-19th century sash window with 6+6 lights and handmade glass located on the ground floor of the right elevation, above which is a blocked original aperture. The front door is a 20th-century half-glazed design with a plain overlight and a flat canopy on brackets, originally positioned centrally to the left of the bay. A plaster band runs at first-floor level and continues along the right elevation. The roof is hipped with a low pitch and features long overhanging eaves, along with two skylights in the rear pitch. The house abuts No. 47, which is not listed.
