Description
A pair of attached early 19th-century houses, later altered in the 20th century and now used as houses and flats. The houses are constructed of plastered brick with slate roofing. The main range faces southeast, featuring a stack in the party wall and cross-wings projecting slightly forward, each with an internal stack. Rear wings are attached, with stacks at their junctions. Mid-19th century 2-storey lean-to extensions adjoin the back of the main block and part of the cross-wings. The rear wings have been converted into flats in the 20th century, each with two doors.
No.2, on the left, has two original 6+6 light sash windows on the ground floor and three above. It features a central moulded 4-panel door, with glazed upper panels, a plain overlight, and a boarded architrave. No.4, on the right, has one original 6+6 light sash window on the ground floor, alongside French windows with marginal lights, and three similar sashes on the first floor. It has a 20th-century glazed door, sidelights, and overlight, within a lean-to porch with a glazed roof. A further 20th-century imitation Georgian door and window are present to the front, the window featuring a semicircular head with a projecting key. Latticed trellis is positioned in front of the French windows. A band runs at first-floor level. The roofs are low-pitched with wide eaves.
At the rear, No.2 retains one original 6+6 light sash window on the first floor of the cross-wing and another in the rear wing. No.4 has one similar sash on the cross-wing and in the rear wing, one on the ground floor and two on the first floor. A casement window with marginal lights and a semicircular head is found within the lean-to extension. Flat No.5 includes a 19th-century 4-panel door with glazed upper panels and a plain overlight. Some original internal folding shutters remain at the front.
