Description
The Stable/Tannery Building at the Isinglass Factory, which adjoins 114-116 West Street, is a structure that includes part stable with a hayloft above and part probable tannery building, later converted into a house. It appears on the Tithe map of 1853 but may date from the late 18th century, suggesting it could be one of the original tannery buildings on this site. The eastern part of the building is timber framed, clad in weatherboarding, with a brick ground floor at the rear and an old tiled roof. The north side features three stable doors in the elevation and two loading doors at first floor level. Inside, there are three cells with weatherboarded partitions. The western part has a similar construction, although part of the weatherboarding has been covered on the south side, which also includes windows on the ground floor and four 16-pane sash windows on the first floor. There is a doorcase with a six-panelled door, and the interior displays diagonal braces.
