Description
Chestnut Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that was extended in the 19th century. It is timber-framed, with a combination of plaster and weatherboarding, and features both thatched and slated roofs. The cottage consists of two bays and is aligned northwest to southeast, with a chimney stack located at the southeast end, dating from the 17th century. There is a lean-to extension on the northeast side, which has a catslide roof and was added in the 19th century. The cottage is one storey with attics and has a thatched roof.
A two-storey range was added at the southeast end in the mid-19th century, creating an L-shaped plan. This section has a hipped roof at the southwest end and a chimney stack at the northeast end, and it features a slate roof. The southeast elevation includes a plain boarded door set in a rustic porch and a two-window range of double-hung sashes with six lights, also from the mid-19th century. The roof is adorned with pierced ornamental ridge tiles. Inside the earlier part of the cottage, there are jowled storey posts.
