Description

Brookside Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage, altered in the 20th century. It is timber framed, with plaster infill and a thatched roof. The cottage has three bays facing the front, with an axial stack to the left of the centre, forming a lobby-entrance. A single-storey extension with a slate roof is located at the rear. The cottage is one storey high with attics. It has two 18th-century, three-light windows with wrought iron casements and diamond leading. The original boarded and ledged door has a small light. The right gable shows a high collar. Inside, there are two large wood-burning hearths, one of which has been blocked and the other reduced to accommodate a 20th-century grate. The left bay features half-height jowls with roll mouldings, and a chamfered transverse beam with lamb's tongue stops. Straight primary bracing is visible in the walls, and the roof has clasped purlins.
