Description
The Manse, The Cedars, and Gray's Shop is a row of two houses and one shop located on Queen Street in Castle Hedingham. The buildings date from the 18th century but have a core that may date back to the 16th century or earlier. They are primarily timber framed and plastered, with No. 38 featuring a painted brick facade. The roofs are covered with red plain tiles, with No. 38 having a slightly lower pitch.
The buildings have a moulded eaves cornice on Nos. 34 and 36 and feature four red brick chimney stacks, with the right stack having attached shafts. The structures are two storeys high, with a window arrangement of 1:3:4 on the first floor and 1:2:3 on the ground floor, showcasing small paned vertically sliding sash windows. No. 38 has a bay shop window on the ground floor and a three-light small paned vertically sliding sash window on the first floor. The shop has a six-panel door with pilasters and a flat canopy supported by scroll brackets. Nos. 34 and 36 have two-panel doors with two lights, moulded pilasters with capitals and bases, and moulded flat canopies. There are wings at the rear of the buildings.
