Description

The table tomb, located in the churchyard of St. Peter and St. Paul, dates from around 1738 and is situated approximately 3 metres southeast of the south porch. It rests on a moulded stone plinth and features four right and left curves with circles between them that support the central side panels. The tomb has mouldings and an egg and dart enriched cornice on the moulded top slab. An incised circular achievement with a helm is also present. This tomb commemorates Benjamin Allen, a physician and naturalist from Braintree, who was a friend of John Ray, whose monument is nearby.
