Description
Black Notley Hall is a house with origins dating back to the 15th century or earlier, featuring later alterations and an 18th-century facade on the front range. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a hipped red plain tiled roof. It has an off-centre right red brick chimney stack, and there are wings at the rear with additional chimney stacks. The house stands two storeys high, with a four-window range on the first floor and a five-window range on the ground floor, primarily consisting of three-light vertically sliding sash windows with small panes in the top sashes. The ground floor windows are adorned with frieze and pentice boards above. The entrance features an off-centre right panelled door with a moulded surround and a flat canopy supported by brackets. Inside, the house is said to contain a four-armed octagonal crown post roof structure, along with moulded and crenellated ceiling beams and wall plates, as well as chamfered ceiling beams.
